[10 Jan 2013|02:47pm]

I realize this comm is basically dead, but in case people are still watching it, I'd love some help.

There was once a fairly large (considering the size of the fandom) fanfiction archive for Gladiator. I want to say it was called Strength and Honor or SPQR or something of the sort. I know archive.org had archived it because I went to it through there a couple years ago. I cannot, for the life of me, remember the link anymore!

It was a black background site, I believe, with navigational columns. Some of the fic hosted on there included Savior of Rome, an epic length novel from Maximus's young life and meeting his wife through becoming The General, and a WIP (I believe 4 or 5 parts at the time it was abandoned) concentrating on how he went from a soldier to a general. Part of the storyline included making friends with the old general's wolfdog.

If anyone can remember the old link, I will love you for eternity.

Gladiator fandom help [22 May 2008|08:38am]

Can anyone help edit the Gladitor article on Fan History? The article is pretty sparse, including a mini bibliography, bebo, LiveJournal and FanPop information... but most of that is really cursory and could use some one fleshing it out, adding more details.

Fan History is also trying to create directory of Gladiator fans. So far, there are 104 articles. It would be really nice to see those articles expanded upon and more articles created so that people can keep up with and learn more about their favorite Gladiator fans.

Why do we Love Gladiator? Survey! [28 Nov 2007|09:43am]

Hello, everyone! I'm conducting some research for my term paper-- please help me? It shouldn't take too long, and you needn't reply to every question.

The text boxes are where you supply other answers (if one of the selections doesn't fit), BTW. Sometimes the formatting gets screwed up...

Please answer every question that applies to you?

It shouldn't take more than 5 minutes...probably less, if you read quickly. ^^

Mass-posted, because as you know, surveys are only useful if it's taken by many, many people. X-posted to multi-fandoms.

Click here to follow the survey.

So. Why do we love Gladiator? Discuss here!

Crowe Plots for Gladiator 2 [07 Nov 2006|12:36pm]

Crowe Plots for Gladiator 2
October 30, 2006

Russell Crowe has revealed he would love to make Gladiator 2. The 42-year-old actor, who played Roman warrior Maximus in Oscar-winning film Gladiator, says he and director Ridley Scott are always thinking up sequel ideas - despite Crowe’s character dying at the end of the first movie.
Crowe told Britain’s Daily Telegraph newspaper: “The idea of doing a Gladiator 2 comes up all the time but we’ve made it very difficult for ourselves by killing off my character in the first one.

Provence and I wanted to take my family to a location that knew my wife would enjoy. It just appealed to me."

Meanwhile, Crowe says he agreed to star in new movie A Good Year because it was set in the South of France. Crowe said: “I wanted to go to There have been many rumours about possible plots for Gladiator 2 including a prequel plotline, or a sequel with a descendent of Maximus as the lead character or even Crowe’s character coming back as a ghost.

“We have an idea but it never seems to have sufficient credibility. It just comes back at us and says, ’Are you kidding?’ Maybe we are kidding. Maybe we just enjoy talking about it.”

New Ridley Scott LJ [12 Oct 2006|05:16pm]

I'd like to invite anyone who is interested to my new LJ for Ridley Scott fans: http://community.livejournal.com/ridley_fans/

I've been a huge Ridley fan for many years now and was astonished to find there wasn't already an LJ dedicated to him, since to me, he is probably the most talented living director out there today. So with "A Good Year" coming out soon and "American Gangster" coming out next year, I thought it would be nice to try and hang out with other Ridley fans and to discuss his movies, past, present and future.

Gladiator Musical [18 May 2006|03:01pm]

[ mood | shocked ]

Seems this is really going to happen...

Maximus Musicalus: Film "Gladiator" to Be Turned Into a Musical

By Robert Simonson
17 May 2006

Ridley Scott's Oscar-winning 2000 film "Gladiator," which featured enough slaughter to fill the Tiber River with blood, is being converted into a stage musical, London's Daily Telegraph reported.

The show is begin prepared for a West End berth. William Nicholson, the Shadowlands and The Retreat From Moscow playwright who co-penned the screenplay, is working on a storyline for the musical.

"It's a terrific story which, with the right songs, will be a great show," an associate of the producer Brian Eastman told the Telegraph. The show will feature much of Hans Zimmer's original film score. According to the New York Post's Liz Smith, Brian Stokes Mitchell is being sought for the role of Maximus Decimus Meridius, played by Russell Crowe is the movie.

The film tells of Roman general Maximus, who is promised the stewardship of Rome by dying Emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Upon hearing the news, however, Marcus' spoiled and decadent son Commodus orders his rival killed. Maximus escapes, but his family is murdered. The soldier is then sold into slavery and trained to be a gladiator. Excelling at his new and bloody trade, Maximus makes it all the way back to the ultimate gladiatorial forum, the Coliseum in Rome. There, he begins to plot his revenge.

random obsessive fan article of the day [16 May 2006|10:17pm]

[ mood | curious ]

jenny's random nonsense of the day:

Cave's Gladiator 2 script vexed russell crowe and company.
After finishing The Proposition, Nick Cave got a phone call from Russell Crowe, an old aquaintance, to see if he was interested in writing a Gladiator sequel. " I said, 'Look, mate, you died in the first one, how are you going to do that?' " Director Ridley Scott suggested Cave watchIngmar bergman films for inspiration. But Cave may have been too inspired vy the cryptic Swedish director. Here is what he came up with: 'Maximus becomes a warrior who can never die-an eternal warrior. At the end is this 20-minute war sequence where he rubs his hands in the earth and each time he stands up he's in another war. It goes on and on through history, [including] Vietnam." Needless to say, Cave's Gladiator 2 won't be coming to a movie theater near you. "Russell didn't like it, basically because the Gladiator walks around in a complete daze for the whole film."

'Pluto' in celeb fit club [17 Jan 2006|08:53pm]

Hey guys!

Those of you who have seen the deleted scenes from Gladiator will remember the character cut from the Zucchabar segment called 'Pluto', who crushes victims sculls with a big, er, spike thing. Well the actor who played Pluto, Jeff Rudom, has been recently seen battling his weight problem on UK T.V, in ITV's 'Celebrity Fit Club'. More info at this link.

I wish him luck in his quest to get healthy!

Gladiator EE DVD menu shots [16 Aug 2005|01:56pm]

davisdvd.com has put up screen shots of the menus on the upcoming Gladiator EE...

Looks lovely.

There is also supposedly an easter egg...

"In order to watch a featurette about a proposed sequel to Gladiator, simply insert disc two of the set and head to the 'Bonus' menu. From there, highlight the return arrow and press right on your remote. If done correctly, this should reveal a hidden symbol. Press enter to watch the three-and-a-half minute featurette."
